On October 20, 2012, the annual Pink Ice Gala will be held at Wayland College at 7 PM. This event is to raise funds and awareness about breast cancer. This cancer can not longer be thought of as only a female concern because it plays no favorites and males are effected by it as well. But neither gender need be effected by it and the time is NOW to put an end to it. Do you believe that? Well, Believe Now! This year's theme is: Believe Now, An Unspoken Responsibility. In honor of this year's theme, I was inspired to write this poem. It is not flowery or sentimental, rather a poke in the ribs type of call to action.

Believe Now, An Unspoken Responsibility

We gather together with one heart and one purpose each year
As an action of faith that together greater things will happen.
We are here now;
Giving willingly of our resources of time, energy and money
Why ?  Why now? What is the urgency?
My Beloved, now is all we have.
        TAKE ACTION,
Do what we have been called to DO
         With love, compassion and tender-mercy.
We all know so well that yesterday is gone and tomorrow may never come,
                  So BELIEVE
We know in our Spirit what we must do NOW,
       It is an unspoken responsibilty.
              And it won't wait.

God Bless You, John 5:24

I think of LIFE as a participatory sport; we are not called to be mere observers. That is why I am not a fan of Reality TV because they take it to the level of voyeurism. That all being said, I still like to watch people in real life and see how they problem solve because I can learn lessons from others and not have to particularly go down their same path. One of the paths I have chosen to go down is the generous path. I want to be a good stewart with all that God has gifted me with and share with others out of this enormous bounty. I desire to be generous with my love, praise, gratitude, smiles, friendliness, hospitality, comfort, compassion, funny stories, presents, money and time. Did you know there is even scripture from Proverbs that declares the benefits of being generous? In Proverbs 11:25 it states, "The generous will prosper; those who refresh others shall themselves be refreshed..." How about that?

April is Poetry Month

Poetry is said to be the language of the soul. I have written poetry since I was a little girl. I don't write poetry everyday, I'm more of a moody poet so I write whenever I"m in the mood. On this blog site, I shall try to endeaver to be in the mood more frequently this April than I was in January, February and March.
Today's Poem
There is a pretty little skinny girl
that lives inside of me.
She comes out occasionally
and writes down poetry.
Look for another poem tomorrow. I encourage you to read or write some poetry today. It can be deep and meaningful or light and silly. It is all good if you let it flow from your soul.

Yesterday was voting day and much to everyone's surprise there was a huge turnout. So much so, the precinct I chair ran out of ballots. In November, there will be another election. I really hope the nation will be surprised by all the registered voters turning out and voting for their candidate and for the issues they support. There is alot of negative press about the election process, various candidates, issues and the general state of affairs occurring within our United States of America. Some of these concerns are definitely valid and I am just optimistic enough to believe all the issues can be addressed and handled in a positive way leading to a productive outcome...if my people will humble themselves and turn from their wicked ways and return to their God.
My personal hope is America will seek a revival in their hearts and a rekindling of love toward their fellow man thereby surrending their allegiance to self absorbed agendas.
What can you and I do to make this happen? One; pray. Two; register to vote. Three; study the issues, be aware and stay informed. Four; Go Vote. Five; Get involved in a community project you feel passionate about and feel God 's leading. Six; Pray some more.
You have just read my six point presentation for the 2012 Election Year! You can do it!!

Spring is in the air. Well here in Alaska, the temperature is 50 degrees and the massive amount of snow is melting. This time of rebirth is always something I welcome, however it seems my Lord will use familiar things in my life to teach me spiritual truths.
I was looking out my window down onto the Knik Inlet and instead of beautiful white downy snow I saw under its massive coverage all the trash and black-brown icy stuff near the ground. I saw with new eyes how forgiveness covers us with a cleansing so pure it as if it is white as snow. This is just the beginning of our rebirth. It is time now to go deeper to our very core being and begin dealing with the trash that has been left behind in our behavior. You got it, It's Clean Up Time. Old habits like old clothes must be discarded. New healthy habits now need to replace old harmful habits. Wrong thinking or rather only self absorbed thoughts must be replaced with the mind of Christ which is always 'Others thinking". When Jesus saves us from our past He also has a way of cleaning us up in our present for the glorious reality of our future. Can I get an Amen anywhere?
My hope is to get a deep cleaning done this Spring and put the sparkle back into my Spirit.
Blessings to you all!

New Year's Reflections

This New Year 2012 has found me in a reflective mood. I was looking through some of my papers and ran across a piece I wrote when I was pregnant with Christina. In February, that that will be 23 years ago. I reread it and found the words to be just as true today as they were on October 24, 1988, the day I penned them. See what you think.
I am sitting here at my desk reflecting over the Sunday morning service which was about Christ's returning. Each scripture that was read was filled with encouragement and certainty of Christ coming again. After each scripture, the preacher would ask, "Are you ready for His return?" Everytime he said that the words echoed deep within me, down to my deepest foundation. I had to ask myself, "Am I living, thinking and breathing the simple instructions Christ gave to His followers? Is my prayer of 'Thy will be done', reflected to others through my actions and attitudes?" Again, I realized my self-righteous pride wanted to brag that I was ready. However, I know Christ can see my heart. He knows what is genuine and when it is only talk on my part.
Again, I had to go before the Lord and surrender, present to God my folly and ask the Holy Spirit to move within me and help me to make ready for the bridegroom. And again, as always, the Holy Spirit took me just where I am in life and began to make known to me how I might make ready, how I might be alert for His return.
I am six months pregnant and filled with excitement and anticipation for the birth of our next child. Sometimes, I get weary of waiting but the hope and the little movements within me restore my patience. The Holy Spirit is guiding me, teaching me, helping me to live this expectation. As Christians, we are all expecting in the spirit. The Christian life must not just be conceived, it must grow within us, change us and live through us so it can be shared with others.
During this time, I want to do all I can to love and care for my body which houses this child. Likewise, this body is the temple that houses the living Spirit of God. Both must be nurtured, one with good nutritious food; the other with wholesome and righteous thoughts. I must rest and not grow weary. I must stay active and not grow weak.
It takes approximately nine months for a human baby to develop and come to us through birth. The first time Christ came to earth was as a baby, fully human and fully God. When will Christ come again? Not even the angels know. What we do know is He will return when Father God says it is time. Until that day, you and I must wait upon the Lord and the scriptures warn us to do so by being alert. This is not idle waiting, this is active loving, caring, expectation that allows our lives to change and be perfected for that glorious day when you and I will see Him face to face. How exciting! As the songwriter says, "What a wonderful day that will be, when my Jesus I will see. When I look upon His face, the One who saved me by His Grace."
Even though these reflections were made over twenty years ago, I am still waiting upon the Lord. He has changed my perception of waiting from passing time until He arrives to waiting on Him as a waitress waits upon her customers. This is the servant's mentality. When He come for His Church will He find you waiting with the attitude, "What took you so long?" or "Oh, I am so happy You have come, look and see how Your kingdom has been advanced." Whatever your response will be, the prophecy is Jesus will return. On this truth we call all put our trust.
