I Want A Parrot For Christmas

Today, Phil and I had such a fun day. I had a book signing at Chester Park gift shop and then we went to Apple Tree Bookshop where Phil played Santa Claus to about 35 children. They were all so spontaneous and cute, full of wonder and awe. He came in with his Santa hat and his red checkered flannel shirt looking for a lost reindeer. They played along. He took them one by one and sat them on his lap and asked them what they wanted for Christmas. The most unusual request was from a little girl who asked Santa for a parrot. Terry Mize and I laughed and agreed this needed to be made into a song. Well, it is 2:23 AM and the lyrics to a song just came to me. Here it goes:
I want a parrot for Christmas
I don't want a toy looking thing.
Santa, please bring me a parrot
And make sure he knows how to sing.
Yes, I want a parrot for Christmas,
Dear Santa, I hope that you've heard.
I want a parrot for Christ-m-a-s
And not just any ol' bird.
There's Toucans, Macaws, and black Ravens
Love birds and flamingos so tall,
Oh, I want a parrot for Christmas...
If no parrot, then nothing at all!
Don't care if he's yellow or blue
I just want one I can talk to.
Santa, please bring me a parrot
And maybe he'll talk to you too.
Johnny Dep probably has him a parrot,
An island and plenty of loot.
Don't care 'bout islands or treasure;
Just want me a parrot that's cute.
I'll feed him and bath him and love him,
And get him an exercise gym;
I'll teach him to tap dance, then maybe
I'll teach him to yodel a tune.
Oh, I want a p-a-r-r-o-t for Christ-m-a-s...
Please, Santa, make sure it comes soon!!!!!!

  1. I have finished the second and final draft of the Parrot song, I hope you will enjoy it and sing it every Christmas, along with all the other nonsense songs like, " I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas." The tune is very similar.
