What does it mean to be a poet?

Henrik Ibsen lived in the 1800's and died in 1906. He was considered by some to be the Father of Modern Literature. Although I do not agree with all his philosophies or find all his plays entertaining, I do relate to a quote from a speech he gave in 1874 to a group of Norwegian students. It is as follows:
"...And what does it mean, then to be a poet? It was a long time before I realized that to be a poet means essentially to see, but mark well, to see in such a way that whatever is seen is perceived by the audience just as the poet saw it. But only what has been lived through can be seen in that way. And the secret of modern literature lies percisely in this matter of experience that are lived through. All that I have written these past ten years, I have lived through spiritually.

Off on Another Adventure

A small change of plans. I will not be attending the Saturday evening Oktoberfest, but I am going to be at the Pandemonium Booksellers Bookstore on Saturday afternoon from 1:00-4:00 pm. This is a fun store with a great layout of all types of books and gift ideas. It also has plenty of room in the Deli to eat or drink and read, do crafts, play board games, have meetings, or just get away from the fast pace we all live in. I hope you will come check it out, buy my book or come visit--it's all good!
Sunday is another fun day. In Eagle River there is this bookstore called Apple Tree Book Shop. It carries Tilly's Song. This store is a feast for the eyes. It has old books, used books, new books, gifts, crafts, and a huge children's section in the back of the store. A special treat is storytime on Tuesdays and Saturdays. They are normally closed on Sunday, however this week is their Open House! It will be fun with lots of things to see and experience. Hope to see you there!
