Chugiak author plans book launch celebration Alaska Star Staff Chugiak author Carol Welty Roper will host a launch party Sunday for her new book “Tilly’s Song” at Kings Way Ministry Center.The novel is a historical fiction based on the true story of Roper’s great-grandmother, Tilly, and grandmother, Marie. Roper captures her family’s journey to America from a village in Northern Germany devastated by an epidemic that killed everyone except her family.Roper said sharing the story with her youngest daughter, who asked her to tell a story that was not in a book. “I thought for a while and then remembered parts of a story my grandmother told me about how her mother and she came to America in 1894.”That story became the basis for her book as she tells how every part of Tilly’s journey is met with grave challenges and adventures.Printed by Good Catch Publishing, “Tilly’s Song” offers the reader a story of healing and restoration. Throughout the book, old German lyrics, put to music by famous composers, enhance the story.
